7th grade math test: a free 10-question quick check
This free math test for 7th graders has ten questions from across the year. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes. It is a quick check, not a full assessment.
In this quick check, every child gets the same ten questions, which represent a selection of the most relevant ones for 7th grade. Unlike the full Level Up assessment, this check does not adapt to a child’s answers. The result shows which questions your child missed, but it cannot identify foundational knowledge gaps. For the full picture, the Level Up assessment adapts to each answer and finds the earliest skill that is missing. It is included in the free trial.

What the questions cover
The ten questions sample 7th grade: unit rates, scale drawings, negative numbers, expressions, random samples, drawing triangles and slices of 3D shapes. Some show a table, a bar graph or a drawing, four ask your child to find the mistake in someone’s work and one asks for a typed answer.
The whole year covers these areas:
Proportional relationships and percents
The first big topic of 7th grade. Your child learns to spot when two amounts grow at the same rate, and uses that to solve rate and percent problems from daily life.
Negative numbers
Your child learns to add, subtract, multiply and divide positive and negative numbers, including fractions and decimals. The sign rules start here, and every later grade uses them.
Expressions
Your child learns to rewrite an expression without changing its value: expanding brackets, collecting like terms and factoring. Two expressions that look different can mean the same amount.
Equations and inequalities
Your child turns word problems into two-step equations and solves them, then starts on inequalities. Every answer gets checked against a quick estimate.
Scale drawings, triangles and cross sections
Your child uses a scale drawing, such as a map or a floor plan, to find real lengths and areas. This area also covers drawing triangles from given measurements and the flat shapes made by slicing a solid.
Circles, angles, area and volume
The two circle formulas and the angle facts used to find a missing angle. Your child also finds area, surface area and volume of shapes built from simpler pieces.
Random samples and comparing data
How a small random sample can describe a large group, and how to compare two groups by the average and the spread of each one.
Probability
Probability appears for the first time, as a number from 0 to 1. Your child finds probabilities by reasoning, by experiment and with lists, tables and tree diagrams.
Every topic of the year, explained for parents, is on the 7th grade math page.
What you see at the end
The score, then every question with your child’s answer, the correct answer and a worked solution. A short message explains what a similar score usually means for 7th graders on our full assessment. Treat it as an indication: ten fixed questions cannot measure where a child stands.
Common questions
What math should a 7th grader know?
By the end of 7th grade: proportional relationships and percent problems; adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing negative numbers; rewriting expressions; solving two-step equations and inequalities; circles, angles and scale drawings; and simple probability. The 7th grade math page explains each topic for parents.
Is this 7th grade math test the same for every child?
Yes. Every child gets the same ten questions, and the test does not change as your child answers. That makes it quick, but it can only show which questions were missed, not why.
Can I print the 7th grade math test?
Yes. The same ten questions come as a PDF, with a separate answer key that has the worked solutions.
What if my child gets most of it right?
That is a good sign for the topics it covers. Ten questions cannot cover the whole year, and this check has nothing on percent problems, equations, circles or probability. A strong score is a reason to check those, not to skip them.
